Tribal Portraits, India
Tamil Nadu Forest, Southern India, 2000.

After the destruction of the forest of Tamil Nadu, small tribes were forced to seek refuge deeper into what remained of the woods. The seven-hour walk into the forest helps protect the villages of Kurumbas, Panyas and Kuttunayakas from outside influence.

Living in harmony with nature in bamboo huts, while preserving their ancient traditions, customs and languages, they have little contact with the civilized world.
