Romanes Circus, France
Bordeaux, France, 2007.

Once upon a time, Gypsy tribes travelled European roads with bears and lions. Alexandre Romanes, a friend of Jean Genet and Dominique Pagnier is a descendant of one such tribe, and has retained this way of life.

The family Romanes Circus is comprised of Alexandre Romanes, his wife – a stunning singer, and their children – acrobats and tightrope walkers. They introduce spectators to the endlessly fascinating world of Gypsies. Steeped in traditions and dedicated to sharing them with the public, the Romanes Circus is the living resolution of the Gypsy paradox of belonging and otherness.
